Palestine Campaign 1917 - 1918

£0.00 (Deposit: £100.00)

The Palestine Campaign of 1917-18 is considered to be one of the most successful undertaken by the British Army in the First World War.

The British and Commonwealth forces were led by General Edmund Allenby, considered by many military historians as one of the most outstanding commanders of the war. Nicknamed the "Bloody Bull" by his men, it was his strategy, developed from his experiences in the Boer War and on the Western Front that led to the allied victory in Palestine.

The Turks had occupied Jerusalem since 1517 AD when the Ottoman Sultan Selim captured the city, it was to remain under their control for four hundred years. That long occupation was about to end as General Allenby entered the Holy City on the 11th December 1917 without a shot being fired.

Frontline Battlefield Tours can now take you on an unforgettable journey, to visit some of the key sites of Allenby's drive north out of Gaza to take Jerusalem. This tour offers a rare experience, not just for the battlefield enthusiast or religious historian, but for anyone looking for a holiday they will never forget.

No visit to the Holy Land would be complete without a visit to one of its most dramatic locations. The fortress at Masada on the shores of the Dead Sea bears witness to another conflict, when Jewish rebels held out against the Roman legions for nine months before committing mass suicide. This tour will include a visit to Masada where the chair lift will take you to the top of the plateau where you can experience the sense of history and take in the breath taking views of the Dead Sea and the Roman camps that surrounded the fortress.

The tour will be conducted by our experienced guide, well known Film producer, author and Historian Ed Skelding . Ed has for many years been involved in making films and is renowned for his documentaries on military history, including Great Battles of the Great War, For Valour (the story of the Victoria Cross) and his most recent film, Our Christian Heritage, which includes an introduction to the Allenby Campaign in Palestine. This is the first in a three part series currently being filmed in Palestine, giving him a unique insight into the events that form the backbone of this exiting tour.
